We are seeking Nurses for a seasonal contract for in-person 2026 summer Institutes; winter/spring preparation is primarily done remotely and asynchronously.

Position Summary
The Institute Nurse acts as the primary on-site health care professional to ensure all basic medical needs are met and appropriate first aid and/or other interventions are initiated. The Institute Nurse manages and ensures distribution of medications to participants. The Institute Nurse is also responsible for administrative and preventative tasks related to the health and well-being of student participants and program staff.
Key Responsibilities
Provide basic first aid care, manage medications, and triage medical needs for the students and staff
Conduct health screenings, implement illness protocols, and proactively manage student health information (allergies, medications)
Work closely with the Institute Director, staff, and sometimes mental health counselors, to ensure holistic student support
Review medical forms and notes prepared by the GIV Health Advisor, and maintain accurate daily medical logs
Live on campus during the 1-2 week summer Institutes (typically June & July), actively participating in staff orientation and fostering a cooperative spirit

Requirements
Spring
Attend staff training with the GIV Health Advisor to review protocols for the upcoming summer
Ensure student medical forms are accounted for and accessible
Review pertinent health information for students and staff
Communicate proactively and responsively with families and students regarding needs as detailed on the medical registration forms, including medications, severe allergies, and any other important information
Communicate with HQ, Institute Director and other leadership team members
During the Institute (Summer)
This role lives on campus and is in residence with the community on a college campus. Institutes vary in number of students and staff.
Check In at Institute
Participate in full staff orientation and welcome activities, including short health orientation for staff and students
Check in about students’ medical needs and any changes since forms were completed
Run health check-in and screening
Receive and review medication from students/parents/guardians
Confirm with students/parent/guardian about status of serious allergies and procedures for mitigating reactions
During Institute
Ensure necessary health screenings and protocols are executed
Ensure safekeeping and appropriate administration of authorized student medications and basic OTC medications
Ensure supervision of students who feel unwell
Act as the first medical point of contact for the duration of the Institute
Collaborate with other staff, and in some cases, the Mental Health Counselor
Maintain accurate records of medication distribution and illness/injury
Final Day:
Run medication check-out process
Qualifications
The ideal candidate has
Licensure or certification as a health professional (RN preferred)
Certification in CPR and First Aid
Experience working with adolescents, particularly in educational or residential settings
Strong organizational skills and an orientation to getting the details right
Familiarity with using and creating spreadsheets and a willingness to learn new software. GIV uses Google Suite.
A valid driver’s license
A love for GIV’s mission, and an investment in young people and their dreams
A sense of humor!
