Description
Boston Children's Hospital seeks a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our CICU team in Healthcare & Medical Services. Provide advanced, family-centered care to critically ill pediatric patients in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment. Responsibilities include assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and coordination of care, while ensuring the highest standards of quality, safety, and compassion. Work with state-of-the-art technology, participate in clinical decision-making and quality initiatives, and contribute to our mission-driven culture focused on innovation and best outcomes for children.Provide comprehensive advanced practice care to critically ill pediatric cardiac patients in the CICU on day and night shifts
Perform detailed histories and physical examinations, synthesize clinical data, and develop evidence-based plans of care
Order, interpret, and act on diagnostic tests, imaging, and laboratory results
Prescribe medications, treatments, and therapies within scope of practice and hospital protocols
Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and coordinate care among cardiology, critical care, surgery, nursing, and ancillary services
Monitor patients for changes in condition, respond to emergencies, and adjust treatment plans in real time
Communicate clearly and compassionately with patients’ families, providing education, updates, and support for shared decision-making
Contribute to quality improvement, patient safety initiatives, and implementation of evidence-based protocols in the CICU
Participate in or support clinical research and data collection efforts aimed at improving pediatric cardiac outcomes
Engage in ongoing professional development, maintain required certifications, and, when applicable, mentor students, residents, or fellows in the CICU environment
Pediatric critical care assessment and management
Cardiac intensive care management for congenital and acquired heart disease
Ventilator management and respiratory support in critically ill children
Hemodynamic monitoring and interpretation
Arrhythmia recognition and basic management
Interpreting pediatric ECGs, echocardiograms, and relevant imaging
Ordering and interpreting laboratory and diagnostic studies
Procedural skills within NP/PA scope (e.g., line management, arterial lines, basic bedside procedures as credentialed)
Medication management and pediatric dosing in critically ill patients
Family-centered communication and counseling
Crisis resource management and response to clinical emergencies
Interdisciplinary teamwork and care coordination
Electronic medical record (EMR) documentation and order entry
Quality improvement and evidence-based practice implementation
Time management and prioritization in a high-acuity environment

Current Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) license in the state of employment
National board certification as an NP or PA in an appropriate specialty (e.g., Acute Care, Pediatric, or Family)
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Eligibility to obtain or current DEA registration for prescriptive authority
Experience or training in critical care or intensive care settings preferred
